The food was absolutely delicious everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly.
It all started with the croqueta.
Añejo is my mom’s nickname. It is what our family called her while I was growing up.
The word means aged: something that only gets better with time. Any rum or tequila worth pouring says Añejo on the label. If it isn’t Añejo, why are we even drinking it? People are the same. My mom feels better and looks better with time. We gain experience, we grow wiser, and we are meant to enjoy more.
After years apart, I was finally able to bring my mom from Cuba to the United States, to give her the life she couldn’t have there and to get back the years we lost.
The night my friends came over to meet her, she made croquetas, and everyone went crazy for them. That night I dreamed we were selling her croquetas. The next morning, having coffee on our balcony with our dog Zeus, we looked at each other and already knew. She had the same dream. I said, let’s do it. From that little balcony we started planning: we are going to sell your croquetas, and the sky is the limit.
Through the criticism, the ups and downs, and everyone who didn’t believe in us, here we are. Añejo grows every day, bringing people together around good food, good flavor, and good company. And it is my way of always having my mom with me.
- Añejo isn’t a croqueta business. It isn’t a catering business. It isn’t a food business.
- Añejo is a feeling.
- Añejo is memories, love, and care.
- Añejo is tradition. Añejo is bold.
- Añejo is family.
- Añejo is my mom.
- Añejo is my story.
